For the top 10% in DFIR, how did you get there?

I have worked with several DFIR teams and have come across very gifted individuals. I feel like in GRC that there isn't as stark in contrast between average and elite GRC professionals but I was blown away by how much better top DFIR professionals are than average. I am not saying that the average are bad, just saying some of the more talented ones I have worked with were that good.
