Encryption of USB

Hello gentlemen so im looking to encrypt a USB drive I'm looking at two options.

Should buy usual USB drive and encrypt it for example with Veracrypt? Or is it better for example a USB like ironkey, Kingston dt2000 and encrypt it with also Veracrypt would that work? To encrypt already an encrypted USB drive?

Please note my knowledge in this field is very basic, most important for me is that the USB should be as safe as possible.
