Do these data eraser apps really work on your phone?

Hope you are well. I recently used Shreddit on my phone. I see conflicting opinions on whether these type of programs really make files unrecoverable. I know absolutely nothing about phones. I clicked on "dod erase". I thought i read that was the best one, but i have no clue. So, yea I was just curious what your opinion was. thanks :)
