DD raw vs E01?

Computer Forensics www.reddit.com

I'm doing an assignment and have to research the different types of forensic tools and the formats that they use. I'm getting conflicting reports on this though. Is both DD and E01 raw formats? Or is DD the raw format and E01 the proprietary format?
