It seems to me that fighting against the data collection of private companies is somewhat of a lost cause (akin to the war on drugs, etc.. there will always be an incentive to gather data about users/customers). in my opinion, instead, laws should be passed to enforce data anonymization - for example, I would very much rather getting personalized ads instead of some random bs as long as the data used to produce them isn't tied to my personal identity... …
