College Phishing Attempt; N00b seeking advice

I am a student in this field and right before an assignment was due on an attack briefing our campus was targeted by a phishing campaign. I want to dig into this further on my end for practice and a real-world example outside of the lab environment. Can you guys point me in the direction of resources on how to trace the "breadcrumbs" back to the core?
