Cloud Security Engineers/Architects: Have any of you successfully moved into your role from mid-career GRC? How did that affect your salary?

I am currently a director in GRC and I've had enough. My company has a very robust AWS training program and I like the future prospects and work environment of cloud security. **If I were early career this wouldn't even be a question. I am curious about those who were mid/late-career and made the shift.** My primary concern is pay. I make director-level pay and can't afford to cut my salary in half to become an engineer.
