career path for soc analyst to government?

I will start my next role as a soc analyst. my goal is to ultimately work for the government or federal. Is the work performed in soc similar to government (will it help me to transit to government?)

Where should I progress my career from now to public sector? (switch to different role, area to specialize(vulnerability, network, firewall...?) , certifications, skillset etc.)
