The government IT outsourcer Capita has acknowledged that a Russian cyber breach that resulted in passport scans being posted on the dark web could cost up to £20 million to repair.

The organization, which also collects the BBC license fee, was the victim of data theft in March from a Russian-speaking cybercrime gang called Black Basta.

The cleanup from the "cyber incident" would cost Capita between £15m and £20m, according to a statement released on Wednesday.
