best ways to check/remove malware/viruses from a flash drive

so I have a flash Drive with some important data on it and I am pretty sure my laptop is full of malware, I moved the important data to a flash drive, reinstalled windows after wiping clean everything, and now IDK what to do to move back the data to my pc without infecting it again, is it enough to use windows defender to scan the files?
