Best case scenario for WhatsApp usage

After 8 years clean of Facebook products I find myself in a position where it poses a potential benefit. What ways can I make use of WhatsApp while still keeping privacy a priority? Alias/fake number to sign up? Web version? 3rd party app? Or is it the official app or nothing?

Edit: to add context I’d only want to check maybe once a day for any messages, reply as needed and wont open it again until the next day.
