Are Pixel phones overkill for average people?

TL;DR: DO Pixels JUSTIFY spending over 400$ more just to prevent evil maids or is there something more that makes them the best even for average users?
This is the most recommended phone on the entire sub because it has the best security. However, Pixel phones are hard to get because high price and regional barrier. Compared with same-specs phones even in offers they are still double the price.
Apart of re-locking the bootloader, I couldn't find any more …
