Privacy & Freedom in the Information Age www.reddit.com

I noticed in many spy films and heist films the characters use “dumb” phones. Older nokia bricks and the like. On occasion you might see a blackberry. Is there any security/privacy advantage to using a phone like that?

Are they less trackable? More secure? What makes them the preferred tools of spies and thieves (at least according to the movies)?
