The thinking is that after experiencing a breach, companies bring in experts for audits, assessments, etc. and improve their security posture. Employees are also more aware (or replaced with ones who are). I'm just wondering, because we hear all the time "I'll never use Company XYZ, remember that breach in 2018?"
