Are audio only devices (Walkman, iPod, Zune etc) gone forever?

I scrapped several versions of this message since I thought better and decided to triple check other posts and some recommendation lists. So I'll keep it short:

**Is it safe to say any recent audio portable devices (post 2012 let's say) are not available without being comparable to a smartphone?**
