Title is subject... wondering if anyone have experience with implementing hardware based passwordless auth/smart cards?

We're looking at going with Yubikey and wondering the following (before signing away our first-borns just to have a sales call and get such \[filtered\] answers):

1. How complex was the implementation?
2. What are the long term maintenance and operations cost?
