Am I the only one who pronounces SIEM as “seem” rather than “sim”? Or is this another “GIF” vs “JIF” thing?

I’ve always pronounced it “seem” but feel awkward when I do now that I’m realizing how many people say “sim”. First of all, WHY?! “ie”, at least here in the States, is pronounced: “ee”. So it seems counterintuitive. Is this a GIF / JIF thing where people disagree or is “sim” the de facto standard?
