Alternatives for personal apps on travel work computer

We have a number of employees travel regularly for work for weeks occasionally months.
Preventing them from using their travel laptop for personal purposes is problematic at best.
So the question is what options could we consider?
Virtual machine ??
Partition disk and setup a separate personal login?
Thoughts, ideas??
Carrying a separate laptop not a very good option.
