Alternative to SMS and Cellular

I still want to be able to send sms and call on my phone using cellular as no wifi is required, but these communication channels are also incredibly vulnerable. I used signal, however they do only offline messages and not calls, and are only partially open source. Is there an open-source, app that can meet my needs? Thanks.
