Airplay/LG TV WAN Access?

Evening, all!
I don't use the 99.9% of smart features on my LG TV and therefore don't want to it to have access to the WAN.
The one feature I do use is airplay.
Unfortunately, when I put a rule on my firewall to block WAN requests airplay will connect however fails to play anything and just shows the wonderful spinning wheel.
I suspect that's because apple uses their CDN to cache and stream the content to the device, but …
