A website was recently asking me to give them my credit card information for payment verification

I don't really feel comfortable giving a random website my credit card info. When I try searching up a work around, it just comes up with fake credit card generators which doesn't work for me as the website knows when a fake credit card number is put in. I just don't want to use my card in general. Is there maybe a public credit card people can use for one time payment verifications? That would be incredibly helpful.
