What laws in what countries would be beneficial to citizens (not corporates) in protecting personal data and privacy?

Coming from a non-technical person living in a third-world country. I truly believe most of the extreme views, cults, conspiracy groups, taboos, unhealthy standards, growth in mental health issues, and information overload (especially in pre-teens, teens, and youth) exist due to unmanaged data made eye candy to satisfy the user subconscious (basically a drug).
