Using OneDrive to access and edit work SMB shares with limited sync of file metadata. Is this a security problem or just things working as intended?

So I was able to symlink a smb folder on work internal network to a local folder then junction that local folder into a onedrive folder. I had issues with directly symlinking to onedrive in the past, but this trick worked. I then remotely connected to a PC not on internal network and made an edit to that file.
