Moving into an apartment where the landlord has placed a doorbell camera on each units entry that he has access to. Is this normal?

I have never experienced this before, and I definitely find it creepy to be recorded every time I come and go from my apartment, but I understand it is probably legal and common proactive because the camera is on the outside of the unit. It is a relatively small apartment building with just nine units, privately owned and managed by the landlord himself.
