Is it possible to pass GIAC exams without buying their courses?

Quite a lot of companies seems to respect certificates like GSOC/GICSP and many others. However the official trainings are extremely expensive - about 9k dollars for each and this even excludes exam costs which are much more expensive than any other exams I can find (Offsec, ISA, etc.).
