If I donate, will the government look at the source of the funds?

I would like to make a donation to a non-profit, as I’ve had a good year and would like to give back a bit. However, I haven’t been up to date on the latest taxes I’ve filed, so I was wondering if they usually investigate the source of donations given to non-profits. Would it be safe for me to donate or does the EU investigate donation sources?
