Google and Yubi Keys

I have just got myself some Yubi Keys which I am setting up with everything that allows it.

After setting it up with Google, Google insists that I add a recovery phone number incase I lose my keys. I already have backup codes saved in an encrypted folder. It doesn't force me to add a phone but it does have a pop up with a big warning sign every time I look at my account.
