can our web system runs in computer being hack by barcode?

We have a management system website where we collect data using barcode scans. The computer is connected to the scanner. If someone scans a fake or malicious barcode, could it affect the PC, and can they gain access to our system that run on website? can he get access to log in but there is a login portal he cannot get access? What can I do to secure it?
