AOL email collection - App Password feature non-functional

After some research, it appears AOL's email app password feature simply doesn't work. Any attempts to generate one results in an error. Without it, access to AOL mailboxes through any third party source such as Forensic Email Collector appears to be impossible with or without 2FA enabled. Does anyone have an alternative idea to collect AOL email? It's not possible to login through Outlook, either.
